What travels through your pipes.

Melbourne's mains water is treated and safe to drink. It does cover a lot of ground from the treatment plant to your home, though, and the chlorine used to keep it safe on the way is something most of us would rather not taste, smell or shower in.

Grit, silt and rust
Mains works and older pipes can send silt, sand and rust into your household water, tap aerators and appliance inlets.
Chlorine you can taste
Chlorine keeps water safe on its way through the network. It is also what you notice in a glass and smell in the shower.
Older pipes
Ageing streets and houses can bring discoloured water, most often after a supply interruption or works nearby.
Tanks and mixed supply
If you use rainwater, or switch between supplies, filtering at the inlet keeps your water consistent.

How the three stages work together.

Every stage has its own job, and each one shields the stage after it. It's the reason cartridges go a full year, and why your water on day 300 matches what you had on day one.

Water from the mains flows through the sediment, carbon and carbon block stages before it reaches every tap.1Sediment2Carbon3Carbon blockFrom mainsTo every tap
  1. Stage 1

    Sediment

    Traps the grit

First, a 5 micron pleated cartridge captures sand, silt, rust and other suspended particles. Stopping them early helps the finer cartridges last longer.

  2. Stage 2

    Carbon

    Cuts chlorine taste and smell

Next, activated carbon brings down chlorine, off tastes and odours, along with the organic compounds that change how your water smells.

  3. Stage 3

    Carbon block

    Adds the final polish

Last comes a dense carbon block that finishes the job, so every tap in the house delivers clear, consistent water.

Filtered water in every room.

A filter on the tap only looks after one sink. The Eco Purify Home System covers every room that uses water, from your morning glass to your evening shower.

  • Kitchen: Drinking water and cookingKitchen

    Drinking water and cooking

Water that tastes fresher in your glass, your coffee, your cooking and your ice, with no jug filter taking up fridge space.

  • Bathroom: Showering and bathingBathroom

    Showering and bathing

Showers without the chlorine smell, and less sediment collecting in your shower heads.

  • Laundry: Washing loadsLaundry

    Washing loads

Every wash runs on filtered water, and less grit makes it through to your machine's inlet valves.

  • Appliances: Dishwasher, fridge and the restAppliances

    Dishwasher, fridge and the rest

The appliances you run daily get cleaner water, with less scale building up where it counts.

Before you book: the common questions.

Plain answers to what most people want to know. Can't see yours? Give us a call.

Do I need a filter to make Melbourne tap water safe?

No. Melbourne's mains supply already meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. What Eco Purify changes is the taste, smell and sediment, and what ends up in your fixtures and appliances. It is not about fixing unsafe water.

Does filtering the whole house reduce water pressure?

Not in a way you'd notice. The system uses big 20 inch housings and 25 mm connections, sized for a whole household's flow, so you keep strong pressure even with several taps running.

When do the cartridges get replaced?

Once a year, all three at the same time. The sediment cartridge only needs changing sooner if the pressure gauge falls by 70 to 100 kilopascals, which mostly happens after mains works. The Care Plan sends a reminder before each yearly change.

What happens on installation day?

A licensed plumber connects the system to your main supply, normally close to the water meter. It takes two to three hours, with the water off for around one of them, and you get a plumbing compliance certificate before we go.

Will it take out fluoride or soften the water?

No to both. Carbon filtration leaves fluoride in, and Melbourne's water is soft enough that softening is seldom needed. For fluoride removal at the kitchen tap, ask us about adding reverse osmosis.

What happens to the system if I sell or move?

It stays with the house, and we're happy to quote for your new place. Care Plans can be cancelled whenever you like or handed over to the new owner.

Let's talk about what your home needs.

Send us a few photos around your water meter and we'll come back with a fixed price, installation included, usually the same day.
